“Secularism” ! This word may sound familiar to few Indians but to many, it is a layman’s moto. The current generation calls the present religious condition of India to be a cocktail of religions. Simultaneously , a fraction of them even admit that a perfect cocktail is only possible with the perfect mixture of all religions along with the smooth blend of the propped up dry and hard misunderstandings among the religions being present.
Let us consider the consider the “Religions” to be the “Languages” and the “Societies” to be it’s “Accents” . In this modern world few muckamucks just for so called “mass interest” is compelling almost everyone to be dialectal by their tongues and is encouraging mismatched Accents for ‘origin’al Languages.
Many unwitting non-muslims confuse between two urdu words – “Halal” , which means, anything which is permissable as per Quran and “Zibah-al-Ikhtiyaariy” , which means to slaughter any animal with a sharp knife by taking the name of Allah by saying “Bismillah Allahu Akhbar”. The common trait between both the terms is that both are “Quranic”.
Rewinding back to the cocktail religions, India mainly consists of 80% of Hindus, a fraction of which are indoctrinated Orthodox, and even some are independent Orthodox. The reason for their orthodoxy is that they claim ti follow the teachings of Gita, Vedas and Puranas which is according to them against consuming beef.
Atharvaveda (6.140.2) states that, “O teeth ! You eat rice, you eat barley, you eat gram, you eat sesame. These are specifically meant for you. Do not kill those who are capable of being Fathers and Mothers.” The Atharvaveda continues by saying, “It is definitely a great sin to kill innocents. Do not kill our cows, horses and people.” I repeat “People” ! But recently is was reported by media that few administrative muckamucks have introduced a bill which seeks “deterrent punishment” – death penalty for cow slaughter and related issues.
The Cow Protection Bill, 2017 seeks, “to create an authority to ensure stabilisation of population of cows and to promote deterrent punishment including death penalty for slaughtering of cows and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto”. A recent outburst from few activists of a regional community even demanded ‘Aadhar Card’ for cows. “Jiv matra, karuna ne patra” is one of the current taglines against cow slaughtering. In our country , even before giving death sentence to a Rapist or a Murderer , the judicial body thinks twice but in case of a cow murder it’s a straight and simple ‘fasi’.
We call India to be a Secular country, then it is brutally inappropriate to religiously and regionally fragment it so that ‘Janta’ can ‘Vote their Caste’. It is to a major extent inapt to keep the largest piece of the pie for the majority Hindus. Further, it is even not fair to channelise the etiquettes of existence for the Non-Hindu citizens of India.
Quran(2:168) says that, “O Mankind! Eat of that what is lawful and wholesome in the Earth, and follow not the footsteps of the Devil”. One straight question , Why making Beef illegal for all the communities ? Even the third book of the Old Testament of the Bible, Leviticus 11 says, ” The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, ‘Tell the Israelites : These are the animals you can eat : If the animal has hooves that are split into two parts, and if that animal also chews cud, then you may eat the meat from that animal’ “.
At one hand, several intellectuals, philanthropists, philosophers, and eminent personalities of our country are emphasising on the unity of all religions, secularism, non biasness, etc . On the other hand, few religiously desperate persons are getting excessively obsessed with their religious principles and even with the Devanagari name of India – “Hindustan”. It’s us who are to stand against it. It’s us who can turn the tables but it’s just some hard core disbelieves which often punctures our self confidence and our rightful “Voter” backbone.
